Quantitative data are often featured in the news. Sometimes the use of data leads to stronger arguments and more compelling stories. Other times statistics are used to give the appearance of validity, but are confusing or otherwise lack relevance or context. The sources below take time to unpick the numbers: 

• The Royal Statistical Society and the American Statistical Association produce Significance, a bimonthly, all-audience magazine covering stats-related topics
• FiveThirtyEight is a news source focussed on telling stories through data
• Medium's Data Science section (and in particular, 'The Ultimate Cheat Sheet for Data Scientists')
• TED's website has talks, articles, and videos about data and statistics  
• The Pudding uses captivating visual essays to explain cultural debates
